Magnetic Roll Separator

A magnetic roll separator is an industrial machine used to extract fine ferrous and weakly magnetic impurities from dry bulk materials. It typically uses high-intensity rare-earth (Neodymium) magnets with a strength of up to 14,000+ Gauss. The material is fed onto a thin, continuous conveyor belt that wraps around a magnetic head roll and a non-magnetic tail roll. As the material passes over the magnetic roll, the ferrous particles are held to the belt longer and drop into a separate discharge chute, allowing the non-magnetic material to fall freely.

These machines are essential across the mining, mineral processing, recycling, and food processing industries to purify raw materials and protect downstream equipment from damage.

How It Works

  • Feeding System: A vibratory feeder ensures a uniform, controlled flow of material onto the moving conveyor belt.
  • Separation: As the belt rounds the high-intensity magnetic roll, non-magnetic materials are projected forward due to centrifugal force and gravity.
  • Discharge: Ferrous impurities cling to the belt as it curves around the magnetic roll and are safely scraped off or fall away once they pass out of the magnetic field, falling into a dedicated impurity chute.

Key Specifications

  • Magnet Type: Permanent Neodymium (Nd-Fe-B) or Ferrite magnets.
  • Gauss Power: Varies from 1,000 Gauss for heavy “tramp” iron to 15,000+ Gauss for weakly magnetic materials.
  • Capacity: Ranges from small benchtop units processing 100-200 kg/hour to heavy-duty industrial units handling 1 to 10+ Tons/Hour.
  • Stages: Often available in multi-stage setups (double, triple, or four-roll) to ensure maximum purity of the final product.

Common Applications

  • Mining & Minerals: Upgrading ores (e.g., bauxite, magnetite) and processing silica sand, feldspar, and abrasives.
  • Recycling: Sorting out fine ferrous scrap from shredder residues.
  • Food & Pharmaceuticals: Removing minute metallic contamination from spices, grains, and powders to ensure product safety.
